Liturgy of the Word From the Book of Genesis
2.7 to 9, 3.1 to 7

The Lord God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living being. Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. The Lord God made to grow from the ground every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, including the tree of life in the midst of the garden and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The serpent was more crafty than any wild animals the LORD God made the woman He said: 'It's true that God says: You shall not eat of any tree of the garden? ". The woman answered the serpent: "Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, but the fruit tree which is in the midst of the garden that God said: 'You shall not eat or you touch it, lest you die." But the serpent said unto the woman: "You will not die! God knows that when you eat, you open up your eyes and be like God, knowing good and evil. " The woman saw that the tree was good for food, pleasing to the eye and desirable for gaining wisdom, and took of its fruit and ate, she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then he opened the eyes of both of them and they realized they were naked. Word of God!

brothers and sisters. Adam is a type of Him who was to come. But what's the difference between Adam's sin and the gift of God through Christ! Adam alone with his sin, has caused mortality of all humans but God, through Jesus Christ alone, he loved us free and we restored the right relationship with self that is the source of life for all beings humans.
Word of God!

Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory!

Praise to you, O Christ, King of eternal glory!

+ From the Gospel according to Matthew 4:1-11 Then Jesus

[after being immersed in the Jordan] was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the divisor. He fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry. The tempter approached and said
"If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." But he said: "It is written in the Bible, not to live by bread alone, but by every word that God himself pronounced." Then the divisor, took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the Temple and said, "If you are the Son of God, throw down, it is written, will give his angels orders concerning you, and they take you on their hands, not because your foot against a stone. " Jesus replied, "it is written: Do not test the Lord your God." Again, the divider brought him a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, and said: "All these things will I give thee if, falling at my feet and worship me." Jesus said to him: "Go away, tempter! It is written: The Lord your God will love: to worship Him alone. " Then the divisor left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.

the Lenten journey of the liturgical cycle A (2011 )

And 'round the more "traditional" uses the basic texts of the last catechumenate.
E 'consists of 5 Sundays which can be divided, even in cycles B and C as follows:

The first and second Sunday
as are the cornerstones on which open the two doors of the "portal of Lent: the
temptations of Jesus in the desert and transfiguration of Jesus on the mountain.

The path that lies ahead for a catechumen, as a Christian is hard, undermined by the evidence, but made only to trust God the Father, loved by children. This confidence is supported by Jesus' victory over the temptations "dia-bolic," trying to separate just as the Son of the Father, and the same event and a statement that the Father makes love to him, his only Son, in his transfiguration on the mountain . The Christian always tried to follow a path of transfiguration of his person and his existence is the real change brought about, such as conversion, by baptism and Easter lived in charity and the Eucharist. The man returns so, in Christ, to his original identity: in the image and likeness of God

The three following Sundays are "baptismal catechesis" (accompanied by the ballots) through the fundamental steps of the evangelical Gospel of John: Jesus is the gift of the Father to give us Life: is water that quenches our need for love, the light that overcomes our blindness, that life does not make us to die.

The first readings (AT) outline the history of the Covenant between God and his people from Adam, Abraham, Moses, David, the life-giving Spirit.

E 'Jesus the New Adam, "the righteous in that brings about the" new covenant "," the anointed "leading the people and gives life to the redeemed with His Spirit poured out from the cross.

readings apostolic express the experience thus established and verified by the Christian community, in its sacramental practice and in his daily life.

There is more taste in life! ... 40 Days to follow Jesus more closely

The journey of Lent 2011

"I am the light of the world Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life. " This
Jesus says to each of us and if, in living our day, we try to really go after him for sure, we see every moment, all we do, every encounter, illumined by his presence. But Jesus says to each: "You are the light of the world, you are the salt of life."

Sometimes our days go by like a desert, there are days that seem to be all up hill or an obstacle course, also our follow Jesus becomes tiresome, as if he dragged it on top of a mountain ... but , surprise!, right there he was transfigured before us, disclosing a face unknown to us, the Risen One!

not just light that enlightens, but it is a new taste in life!

The annual journey of 40 days affects everyone, adults and children, in following Jesus step by step, and helps us to discover that he is in us and for us the water of life, the light that overcomes our darkness , the life that rises from the dead!

There is neither spontaneous nor natural to make our journey back Jesus, we must struggle with our own laziness, with our distractions, with our concerns, our selfishness in order to converge against him, making us by all means help the community takes available: the word of God, prayer, charitable works together ... to discover that there is more taste in life!

Notes exegesis for understanding the text

The passage of the Gospel is mentioned in today's liturgy is taken from chapter 7 of Matthew,

The parable of the "two houses", one built on the bedrock of the Word and the other on

sand of indifference, then, is the explanation of the theme "do the will of the Father

'ie put into practice. In modern terms we can speak of

essential and vital relationship between Orthodoxy and orthopraxy: there must be and be seen a direct correspondence between the choices

practical life (orthopraxy) and the reasons

ideals, the principle underlying (Orthodoxy) who inspires those choices. Without a dynamic and vital

relationship between the ideal life, between the choices and faith, we fall

ideology that often serve to cover evil deeds result of the separation between "saying and doing" and that the people

codifcato in its wisdom in that, "preaches, but Razzola

evil." Ideology, in general, walking with his head caught above the clouds by

not see how his life choices are fagrante in contradiction with the alleged

same principles.

Verses of 7.22 to 23 Mt, that prolong the warning of v. 21, probably

were added later because the linearity of the load unnecessarily

verse in question, there is evidence that in the parallel passage in Luke

these two verses are missing (cf. Lk 6.46 to 49). The admonition in verse 2I revolves around the phrase "do-

not do," while the parable of the two houses reported by today's Gospel focuses on the combination

"listen-to '(or' do ': vv. 24.26) 2. These three references

to "do / not do the will of the Father" and "hear-no practice 'are

a clear advance in the parable of the two fgli that his father sends him in the vineyard (Mt

21.28 to 31) and that Jesus reads the same as discriminating evaluation FNAL

materially from those that belong to the world of religion and ritual

who pretend to be law of primogeniture and religion of those who expels

appearances on behalf on behalf of a formal purity and instead, under

of their life choices, are found to be much closer to the heart of God

what they themselves do not have consciousness (cf. Mt 21:31 b-32).

The gospel once again the problem of the relationship "religion-faith": it can be religious, even pious

work and live rituals, celebrations perfect

processions and rituals to fill, namely the religious life of the "say" and at the same time be

away from the faith that is nourished by Word and abandons the will of the Father.

believe is to live out the ethical and existential imperatives of the Gospel

the logic of a life of justice and sharing the story that takes itself and its contradictions

, charging Christ as the weight and the sin of the world affnché

all may be saved, from the perspective of the will of the Father (1 Tim 2:4, John

6.39). You can live all day in church and live a pagan life;

can be a life outside the church and live by the Spirit, because anyone can harness

God in the categories of their own narrow vision of life. The category of theological

"there is no salvation outside the Church," formally correct, can be translated

and more consistent with "the Spirit there is no salvation outside

" Thesec particulars which reduces to the principle of summary of the whole Gospel, "out of love,

there is no salvation." No one can dare to measure the potential or establish

confni Spirit under the scope of its vestry. Mt

is bothered by a catechetical point of view, especially considering

that his gospel is addressed primarily to Christians from Judaism and then obsessed

observance "material" of religious precepts, especially those

regarding ritual purity. The same theme is taken up and with strong words

also addressed by James (cf. James 1:22-25) and Paul in vehement terms.

Mt writes to the fne century. I d. C. and already concerned that the formalism of belonging

prevail over genuineness of the accession to the idea of \u200b\u200bthe Kingdom.

In this context of religious formalism explains the excessive insertion

here due to the hand of the editor of Mt 7.22-23 FNAL, where explicitly refers to the emptiness and futility of

a religion obsessively closed in on itself and screwed in

2 The applicant term "my Father in heaven" (Mt 7.21, 10,32.33, 12.50, 16.17;

his lifeless rituals that Jesus himself branded as "works of iniquity." Many of us have

probably had the experience of parishes which revolves around the pastor

a number of lay people who were initially taken by strong adherence to the ideals of the gospel and

fne turned into an impenetrable fence that has fnito

to prevent external approach and the pastor to go outside. Many parishes are closed in

small sect of secular clergy who require a life style without

pointless pastors do not have the strength or the will to break this circle

deadly and atrofzzano, debasing the revolution of the gospel in Chamomile

tranquilizer.

Perhaps in the community to which it addresses Matthew identifcabili there were people well, maybe

very involved in the organization, perhaps even with striking charisma,

but led a life "apart" from the ethical demands of faith,

as Paul also had experience in Corinth (cf. 1 Cor 12-13): a they

Mt remember that faith is a call to conscience that also requires a commitment

visible. If we look around us, we can not see that in churches

is read and proclaimed the gospel for two thousand years, yet in most areas where it is expressed

Christianity and religiosity of belonging, has blown the lid and

aberrations are the toughest out, the racism more fierce, the visceral anti-Semitism and xenophobic sentiments

from Nazi death camps by those who do

pride of being a Christian and do every day, gargle with the "values" to defend

and put as a bulwark of a phantom "Christian civilization." Not the

problem that exposes the reality of the gospel as we should see human

from the viewpoint of God, that is full of interest of each person living on planet earth

, the problem is that those who read the gospel stop reading and not cer -

about tools and methods to do analysis of intervention. He tried the Church

with Latin American theologies of liberation on the pretext that used

methods of Marxist analysis was persecuted, beheaded and destroyed with the result that today

the Latin American continent is a training ground for sects and factions that all

but seek the good of the people, according to the dominant power and

economic oligarchies, using the Scriptures as you use a drug and consolatory

imbonitrice. The relationship between 'say' and 'do / do it "is this:

the believer must choose and adopt a method of analysis and reading of history that can

ends with the prospect the Gospel and then go fno basically committing

to serve the people of God in and out of confni Churches,

service defnitivo not of this or that religion but the Kingdom of God is

from the future, but walks forward with the legs of the people and the choices of individuals and groups

. You can not always stay in the chair and never get off the streets

the concrete life of the people. Jesus tells us today that we must assess

the foundations of our choices for verifcare if there is rock under the sand or is there

and this requires a direct involvement, a commitment to the city of man,

it and just knowing that it is the key to the city of God

Only the Word of God in the Church is final, everything else, including the decisions and proposals

authority should be evaluated on the basis discernment, so that Paul

states, "through each thing and hold fast what is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21). At fne

of history will be judged on obedience, but if we put into practice the Word

that generates "the glorious liberty of fgli of God" (cf. Rom 8:21).

From the Book of Deuteronomy 11.18 ... 32

Moses said to the people: "imprint on my heart and soul of these teachings. We teach them to your children. So you and your descendants will remain in the land which the Lord has promised to your forefathers to give you.
do them, you love the Lord your God, act according to his will and rimanetegli faithful. You'll have his blessing, if ye obey the orders of the Lord your God, now I can tell you. now, brothers and sisters, as witnessed by the Law of Moses and the prophets, but apart from law, God has made known his desire to save all those who believe in Jesus Christ, without any distinction. In fact, all have sinned and come short of the experience of God that saves them. All human beings have been saved through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, because God loves them for free. He has openly made known to Jesus Christ, who died on the cross by shedding his blood, as a means of forgiveness for those who believe in Him
we say that human beings are accepted by God because they believe in him, regardless of practicing the Law of Moses. Word of God!

PROFESSION OF FAITH-
Apostles' Creed I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried, descended to the dead on the third day he rose again He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen!

3. Why return to peace and justice in countries plagued by violence, wise and honest dealing of the good of all their compatriots, let us pray.
4. Why are believers in Jesus with their life choices, showing that the newness of the Gospel can be the basis for a project of life and society, please.

5. Parents and teachers do not lose heart in their commitment to the education of new generations, we pray.

6. Participating in this table because we feel that God the Father accepts as his children in his Son Jesus, we pray.

ITALIAN CARITAS for North Africa

"prepare
a disaster humanitarian

ITALIAN CARITAS Diocese mobilizes
Tuesday, March 1, 2011

The uprising, which began in Tunisia, the concerns that have emerged in almost all Muslim countries, from the small Djibouti in the Horn of Africa to Yemen to the unknown and even Saudi Arabia can not be explained only by poverty, unemployment, corruption and the cultural crisis of the Islamic world, elements also present in varying degrees. But, combined with the words spoken by the president of the CEI Angelo Bagnasco, we believe that: "When a people is oppressed for too long by a regime that respects human rights, sooner or later burst." It is therefore a real danger of a humanitarian catastrophe with thousands of internally displaced persons, refugees and asylum seekers who could pour across North Africa and the northern shore of the Mediterranean.

Italian Caritas supports a number of years the business Caritas of all North Africa and in particular the small and the work of Libya Caritas Christian community that actively works in silence, in particular in assisting African migrants who manage to survive after crossing the Sahara desert. It was also triggered by two years a discussion table with the Caritas of the countries bordering the Mediterranean. All this in the belief that the challenges of migrants can face only one set and a transnational, involving the countries of departure, transit and destination of migrants. In this period are constant links with the director of Caritas Libya Laoyon Arcebuche Father Alan, who unfortunately can not wait as all outcomes of the clashes taking place. At the national level, Caritas Italian from the first moment shared in the National Council of 15 to 16 February 2011, the next steps, which have experienced the following developments:

1. Continue the contact with the pastor of Lampedusa, the archbishop and the diocesan Caritas of Agrigento, the regional delegation of Caritas of Sicily.

2. Monitor the evolution of the situation in Lampedusa. It was immediately organized a mission there to monitor the operations of acceptance and transfer of migrants and to check the activities of the center of first aid and reception site in the town of Pozzallo, diocese of Noto, where guests are also some minor joints with recent landings from Egypt and Tunisia. For the latter, Italian Caritas supports an animation project, waiting to be transferred to appropriate shelters.

3. Italian Caritas is actively participating with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) at a table sponsored by the Ministry of Interior to jointly establish a plan to host an extraordinary about face 6 000 Tunisians arrived on our shores and those who are expected to arrive in the next several weeks.

4. In recent meetings, the Minister of Interior informed about the intention to transfer in that base all asylum seekers from various CARA (Centers for asylum seekers) in the area to make room for new arrivals to our shores and the opposition has been expressed of the three organizations stressing instead the need to use as Mineo CDA (Reception Centre), however, with direct procurement, management of the Centre for Mineo was given to the Red Cross while the above organizations, including the Italian Caritas, have given their approval for a presence in the Centre for listening activities protection, assistance and guidance for migrants and possible asylum seekers, on time and in the manner deemed most appropriate.

5. Waiting for answers, Italian Caritas meanwhile is preparing to support a permanent presence in Lampedusa, and possibly in the center of Mineo (once you know the destination of the center), especially in anticipation of the arrivals, which are expected for the next few weeks.

6. At local level, the diocesan Caritas are mapped structures available in their territories to ensure a ready acceptance in the event of failure of the system implemented by the Government. Italian Caritas and Caritas diocesan, and hope that all diplomatic means are in place because the killing to stop, and to become established democratic governments are able to meet the legitimate aspirations of local people of freedom and respect for human rights, are preparing for an emergency that Europe will have to share. In the knowledge that - by joining forces and sharing the experience gained in recent years - will then be called to a subsequent hard work of rebuilding that needs to be addressed in Libya and in North Africa.

How To Make Dummy Phones Work

Consumerism .... A community

The boom in consumption in today's world creates more noise than all the wars and weapons, most confusing of all the carnivals. As the old saying goes turkish, drinkers put on the account, he gets drunk twice. The culture of consumption because it sounds very much like the drum is empty, and the hour of truth, when the noise stops and the party is over, the drunk wakes up, alone, accompanied by his shadow and broken dishes that have to pay. The right to waste, the privileged few, says he is free to all. Tell me how much fuel and I'll tell you what you're worth.

This civilization does not leave the flowers to sleep, nor hens, nor the people. Flowers in greenhouses are subjected to continuous light, so they grow faster. In the factories of eggs, the chickens also are prohibited at night. And people are sentenced to insomnia, the anxiety and anguish to pay to buy. This pattern of life is not very good for people, but it is very good for the industry pharmaceutical industry. The U.S. consumes half of sedatives, anxiolytics and other chemical drugs that are sold legally in the world, and more than half of banned drugs that are sold illegally, which is not a small matter when one considers that the U.S. is just five percent of the world population. The world tends to turn into a big screen television, where things look but not touch. The football World Cup have confirmed, among other things, that the credit card of Master Card and tones the muscles that Coca Cola gives eternal youth and that the menu of McDonald's can not miss in the stomach of a good athlete. The masses of consumers receiving orders in a universal language: advertising has succeeded in what the 'Esperanto has tried and failed. Everybody understands, anywhere, any message that the TV broadcasts. In the last quarter century, the costs of advertising have been duplicated in the world. Thanks to these poor children drink more coke and less milk, and time of leisure time consumption becomes mandatory. Leisure, captive time: the very poor homes do not have a bed, but they have a TV, and TV is talking. Buying in installments, this animal test vocation "democratic" progress: do not listen anyone, but speaks to everyone. Rich and poor know well the virtues of the latest model car, and rich and poor are in knowledge of the attractive interest rates that banks offer this or that. The consumer culture, the culture of the ephemeral, condemns everything disuse in the media. Everything changes at dizzying pace of fashion in the service of the need to sell. Things get old in a blink of an eye, to be replaced with others of fleeting life.

Today all that remains is the insecurity, the goods, not built to last, are so volatile as the capital that finances and the work that creates them. The money flies at the speed of light was there yesterday, is here today, tomorrow who knows, and every worker is an unemployed potential. Paradoxically, shopping centers, reign of fugacity, offer the illusion of the most successful security. They resist timeless, ageless and without roots, without night, no day and no memory, and exist outside of space, beyond the turmoil of the dangerous realities of the world.

Through our Lord ... Amen!

Liturgy of the Word from the prophet Isaiah 49.14-15

The people of Zion said
"The Lord has forsaken me,
the Lord has forgotten me."
But the Lord said:
"Can a woman forget her nursing child
; not love more the child of her womb?
Although they may forget,
I will never forget you. "
Word of God!

Responsorial Psalm - 61
R. / In God alone my soul at rest, he is my hope.
1. He alone is my rock and my salvation;
rock my defense, I stand firm.

2. In God is my salvation and my glory;
balance my refuge, my defense.

3. Trust in him always, O people,
before him pour out your heart.

4. Since the power belongs to God
Yours, Lord, is grace.

from the first letter of Paul to the Corinthians

4.1 to 5 brothers and sisters. One should regard us as servants of Christ and stewards of God's mysterious plan of salvation Now, what is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.
but I care very little about being judged by you or by a human court, indeed, I do not even judge myself, because even if they are not aware of any fault, why are not justified. My judge is the Lord! So please do not judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes. He will highlight what the darkness hide and manifest the intentions of the hearts: and then everyone will be rewarded by God himself.
Word of God!

Alleluia, alleluia!
The word of God is living and active, discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hallelujah!
+ From the Gospel according to Matthew

6.24 to 34 at that time. Jesus told his disciples: "No man can serve two masters, because they love one or the other, or be loyal to either party. You can not serve God and wealth. Therefore I say unto you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, nor about your body, what you will wear life is not worth perhaps more than food and the body more clothing? Look at the birds of the air neither sow nor reap, nor gather into barns, yet your Father who is in heaven, feeds them. Are ye not much better than they? And which of you, as you restless, can extend their lives even a little? And the dress, why do you worry?
Observe how the lilies of the field neither toil nor spin. Yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his wealth was not arrayed like one of them. Now, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will not make much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? You're not anxious, saying, "What shall we eat? What shall we drink? What shall we wear? ". Of all these things are in desperate search for those who do not believe in God your Father is in heaven, in fact, knows that you need all these things. Instead, try, first, the kingdom of God and do His will, He will give you more than all these things. Angosciatevi therefore not of tomorrow, for tomorrow will have its own anxieties. Sufficient unto the day the evil thereof. "
Word of the Lord!

Libya - Italy: the complicity embarrassed
Lock the market for arms and respect human rights

On 2 September We have expressed our disgust for the "unseemly spectacle" in honor of Gaddafi prepared by the head of government who ostentatiously kissed the hand of the dictator without considering any reference to human rights abuses, the tragic fate of victims of rejections, who died in the desert or in Libyan prisons. Now is the ruthless repression of the revolts. Armed groups fired on a crowd that is also bombed.

Pax Christi wants to remember that Italy is Europe's leading exporter of arms to the regime of Gaddafi. In the 2008-2009 period, the Italian government has authorized the sending of arms companies own more than € 205 million, more than a third of all permits issued by the EU. In contrast to European counterparts, the foreign minister refrained from reporting even the temporary suspension of arms supplies to Gaddafi.

Italy, thanks to the many business and horrors, embarrassed, stuttering.
Yet there have been stresses.

After the first riots in the countries of North Africa, with the Network Disarmament and the peace table, we asked the government to suspend all military cooperation with all countries of the region.

But life is worth more of Libyan oil, gas and all other interests.

E 'urgent review of the "treaty of friendship, partnership and cooperation between Italy and Libya" (signed in Benghazi in August 2008 by Berlusconi and Gaddafi) with which the Italian exports of weapons to the Libyan coast have got momentum. We want to remind

that the Act 185 of 1990 on arms exports concerned with establishing the "respect for human rights in the country of final destination" and to refuse the export of arms "if there is a clear risk that military equipment or technology to be exported can be used for internal repression ".

disarmament, justice and democracy are the foundation for the North Africa and the Mediterranean become, according to the dream of La Pira, a large new lake of Tiberias." not the bloodbath that we are forced to look in front home.

And again: The Lord knows the plans of the wise are futile. So no one put their pride in someone, because it's all yours: Paul and the other apostles, the world, life, death, present and future: all are yours; But you are Christ and Christ is God's Word of God!

But I say unto you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that ye may be true sons of your Father in heaven, he makes his sun rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on who obeys him and who does not. In fact, if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the excommunicated? And if you greet your brethren only, what are you doing than others? Not do so even non-believers? Notes exegesis for understanding the text

The passage of the Gospel we read that continues the proclamation of the six antintesi

(5.17 to 6.1 Mt) at the base of the "Law" of the Gospel preached in the new "speech

of the mountain, which we have already considered in previous meetings, following

the liturgical pattern, we analyze the last two hours antithesis.

The fifth antithesis which begins the song of today's Gospel quotes a text

now entered the popular wisdom, using it in the worst way, "

eye for an eye and tooth for tooth" (Mt 5.38, cf. Ex 21.24; Lev 24.20; Dt 19:21), the standard is better known as

"law of retaliation." Today, with this phrase means that the damage suffered

you want to match the maximum severity, without mercy.

Who uses this language, in general, is considered fair, as if it were a despicable

, able to revenge, revenge is considered currency

current fair price for the injuries suffered. This attitude demonstrates

what we have just given way to the most bestial of our nature,

that shows the law of the jungle. But the "law of retaliation" was not so

was one of the most important laws of the seventeenth century. a. C. because, before the government

inordinate power of the force, it stated "by law"

the proportion of the damage and the penalty paid. The Mosaic law of retaliation is the oldest

biblica1 legislation, because it already exists in the Code of Hammurabi, "one of the most ancient collections

laws of humanity and attributed to the Babylonian king Hammurabi

or Hammu-Rapi (1792-1750 BC) 2. Before these laws legal

'written', the fno indiscriminate revenge was to achieve a disproportionate ratio

between harm and punishment, as the history of the biblical patriarchs, the "song of Lamech

" (cf. Gen 4.23 to 24 ). With Hammurabi and Moses after the first, the violence was reported

to an equal relationship and no longer left to the will of

single. The law of retaliation, therefore, is a step of civilization, legislation

change history and affect the habits of generations, for thousands of years.

seems heresy to say this today, but it is because when lays

matching blow for blow, poses a barrier to violence without measure:

a wound is a wound and not just a murder, if one receives a slap, not

can retaliate with a massacre. The law affirms the principle of retaliation ethical and psychological

that each of us works and lives within a network of priority and proportion -

that characterizes the confni extremes. One can overcome the law, but

can not go beyond it. The legality before being a legal concept is

an attitude because it is the spiritual and psychological limits of consciousness and awareness

to understand the importance of the other impassable because it expresses

balancing the demands, needs and rights. Who has not read or think over

statement. To comply with the law that creates the size of the spread

law, must respect themselves, but also accept and acknowledge

as part of a larger human reality, while maintaining their individuality and freedom of conscience

. Even in

salvation history we see the law of retaliation.

Exodus tells the story of slavery in Israel of God who intervenes with el'irruzione

strongly to deliver them from the rule of Pharaoh. It is the beginning of Israel's history:

the besieged people from Pharaoh, on the night of liberation, the promise was

which would apply the law of retaliation by God: Egypt

who persecuted and tried to kill firstborn of Israel (cf. Ex 1:22), will be affected in its

firstborn (cf. Ex 12.29 to 30) and Israel on the basis of the merits of the Fathers (cf. Wis 18.9) would have been included

in the book of the righteous. God does not respond to injustice

destroying Pharaoh's Egypt, but depriving him of the firstborn, thus restoring the proportions

initial strength. We have to wait to see Jesus upside to the relationship fno

supreme point where the innocent is charged violence that has generated and

not be held responsible for emptying the contents of strength and thought itself that drives the

choices and acts of violence. Vanifcare to death in the name of God, Jesus

no exception to his death, but the encounters and moments before he died

forgive his killers as the law of retaliation inversion required in the Torah.

The rationale of the 'eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth "(Exodus 21.24) replacing the

forgiveness unconditionally and without expecting anything in return, a love to lose:

" Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do "(Lk 23,24). In the name of

God can only forgive, that waiver is the balance between harm and punishment and the victims -

tima is charged not only damage but also because only then could the penalty be

won the imbalance created violence. In the name of God can only be killed by their own

murderers and while he identifcano as such, the victim

change their nature and transforms them into brothers and sisters (cf. Jn 18.11). Jesus brings

even further the need for community life: the root must be removed from the heart itself

of revenge, leading fno love of the enemy, in imitation of God if he could boast of Lamech

revenge seventy times seven, that is, without a vengeance

fne, the disciple of Jesus who accepts the Law of the Gospel, forgiveness comes "fno

seventy times seven" (Matt. 18:22), reversing the legal system of his time:

revenge gives way to forgiveness. The reference to the law of retaliation made

Jesus, however, lies in a broader context, because "justice" new

can not be exhausted in a series of rituals and moral rules, closed in themselves. It

the contrary, must express a new vision of the world because it reveals a new

face of God, free from the shackles in which religion, usually buries him. The fact

religion nourishes itself and "use" God to impose its rule

because it can flourish only if its adherents are submissive and servile,

incapable of thinking. Where there is freedom of religion because they do not lose infuenza

able to use force, anonymous rituals and unchanging and what is more, not

can do prevail superiority of the priestly caste who shamelessly

use God as a tool for its assertion of authority. But where there

faith reigns supreme freedom based on consciousness that fosters responsibility

and embodies the emotional relationship, nurtured by fducia and reciprocity. The "new

justice" of Jesus, in fact, requires faith, which can be expressed only in the context of

freedom and love. The Code of Hammurabi was formulated in an impersonal way,

while the commandment of YHWH, delivered to Moses, is direct and personal,

addressed to "you" with a command expressed this imperative. While

in the code of Hammurabi is the formula of an offense is detected and the corresponding penalty

, in the biblical commandment, God speaks to the conscience and

establishes a relationship of affection for the Law can not be just a bank

outside, inevitably based on fear, but should be indeed no inner spiritual

creating a vision of life and consequent behavior (

cf. Mk 7:20-23). Jesus does not linger on the Mosaic Law which had already made the limit

of proportion, but undermines the concept of minimum legal (or moral) "

to envisage a new order of justice, founded on the primacy of the relationship

in turn is rooted on two pillars: the person as such and God

as the guardian of the person. You play two reciprocity: the human being is

"image of God" (Gen 1:27) and then make the invisible visible of which guarantees

the original God affda human being and then rises to its nature. All

this is not resolved at the level of religion, but engages and develops only in

of faith, which is a movement of the heart and intelligence, a "place" relations

emotional and spiritual.

Jesus opposes the law of retaliation nonviolence, that the only instrument capable of

sconfggerla (cf. Mt 5:39). Jesus goes beyond the law itself and expresses a radical step

: Revenge must be eradicated from the heart of man. Jesus states

behavior, but outlines a policy that we codifcare

in modern terms this way: if you want to change another, change yourself against it. If

respond to violence with more violence, not only increases the violence.

If an act of violence respond to face the violence, calling for

name and accepting it as evil, and remain aware that it is

violence, but do not eat is inside the emptied of all its power to

death. The act of violence remains unanswered and that the author expects that they be

load, because without meaning to our. This is the logic of turning the other cheek or

to let off the mantle of being carried away or in court. The believer does not

suffer violence or abuse, but name them, recognize them and oppose

acting as a bank and absorbing all the violence that would otherwise not

quell'argine, risks of more damage. It is the only way to reject violence,

inadmissible for not being complicit in a perversion of the system.

violence as expressed not objective and can not be resolved without returning to the sender

which in turn must decide what to do and as a result

set.

In the sixth and final antithesis Jesus leaves intact the mosaic system, simply turn it over:

love of neighbor that Jews were the Italians and

hatred for the enemy, passing the love of the enemy that it is included in a report

of "relationship" with God Jesus' passage is complex: it starts with

"4. Rabbi Yosef Aqiba well (about 50-135 AD), one of the founding fathers of Judaism

after the destruction of Jerusalem, says that the commandment of love

the next of Leviticus "is a major principle of the Torah" (Midrash Sifra to Lv

19:18). For the love of neighbor means to visit the sick, consoling

rents, to give a dowry to fdanzate, etc.. In turn, Maimonides (1138-1204), the

largest medieval Jewish commentator, reads the command in Leviticus

a moral: "Tell him [the upcoming] with kind words and respect his property

"(Mishnah, Yadaìm Déot / Mani, 6.3). The reference to "your Father who is in

heaven" (Mt 5,45) is a reprise of the Prophet Malachi, which advocates a single human creature

because of one God (cf. Mal 2:10). What that meaning to our "neighbor / fellow

of the' image of God" (Gen 1.27) which determines them as brothers and sisters, fgli s

3 There is debate whether the term "neighbor" refers only to the "compatriot"

Babylonian Talmud, Shabbat, 31a. The text is also included in the book of Tobit, "what

that you do not hate anyone" (Tb 4:15). The text is interesting because the Targum of Jonathan

translates Leviticus 19:18 in the words of Hillel. In the Gospel of Matthew the negative formula

of Hillel is formulated in a positive way, "Whatever ye would that men should do to

you, do ye even so to them: this is the law and the prophets "(Matthew 7:12), so that meaning to our

the teaching of Jesus is not entirely new, but in the process of the grafted

of moral witness and his unique "Son of Man."

only to emphasize that the believer has a justification or

or more in his belief is only a stopgap, a temporary dress depending on the circumstances

and convenienze5. Those who believe can not claim sun or rain

special and different from the sun and the rain of those who believe not. Here we find a hint

important to the secular nature of God's which is not a matter of

membership, but of availability within. Already Leviticus calls to those who believe to be borne by the

your neighbor" (Lev. 19:17). Failure to others and Defne "sin"

crushing, "so you do not responsible for the sin for him" (ibid., cf. Galatians 6:2; Phil. 2:3). The same

revenge is not only prohibited, but replaced with love and affection

elective.

Similar concepts will be developed by Jesus in Matthew's Gospel, in the 4th speech,

dedicated to the community (Mt 18), when the believer s'inviterà the Kingdom of God

motivated by personal success or by the emergence itself, since no one has called

for himself, but all receive a vocation as a function of a community,

a view of humanity where God puts us to live and work. I Corinthians is different -

revelation of his Person . Every man and woman are our Mount Sinai

5 The 'publicans' mentioned in Matthew 5.46 are those Jews who accepted to work for

Romans, having been awarded the contract for the collection of taxes, often indulging in prevarication and

, we take seriously the words of Jesus, today addressed to us, because we do not happen that happened

rich man in the story of Mark, who preferred to stay alone rather than

dive in 'humanity of God (Mk 10.21-22).

If we look at the text of Matthew and put it in parallel with that of similar Lk

see many differences that immediately catch the eye, you can see, one

overview, Matthew writes that for Jews, which quotes Exodus (cf. Ex 21.24) and

Leviticus (cf. Lk 24.20, 19.18), while Luke is more generic since its

audience is not familiar with the Hebrew Scriptures. From this we argue

that the Word of God must be adapted and embodied in every culture, without

identifcarsi with this special. Another difference between the two gospels

about the literary form: Mt uses the structure antithetical, which compares

the teaching of Jewish tradition (Oral Torah) with your ad liberating

of this form there is no trace in Luke, which in turn eliminates any reference to sinners

and Gentiles (cf. Mt 5.46 to 47) and merely talk about

sinners in general (cf. Lk 6:33-34). From the standpoint of the history of the text, it seems that the shape of Mt

is older than that of Luke, which clearly is an adaptation of an audience

that Jews considered 'pagan Gentiles. "

The conclusion of Matthew 5:48: "You, therefore, be perfect as your Father is perfect

your heaven "must be understood as the conclusion of all six antithesis

taken as a whole and not just the last. In it we find the theme of Jewish

"perfection", which sees the Jew as the fulfillment of all requirements

of Law, and observance of the 613 commandments that sum up the entire Torah. Mt

goes beyond this almost bureaucratic formalism and announces that perfection is

in the nature of God which is expressed in free, ie, in self-free and liberating

that believers are called to imitate. He uses the example of the act of God

send in the sun or rain does not discriminate between sinners and

right ", but bears the" fulfillment of the Law "and the overcoming of formalism

Faris (cf. Mt 5,17.20, 19.21). Luke however does not speak of an ideal of perfection, but merely

more moderately, to speak of goodness and mercy,

concepts more accessible to the greek world (cf. Lk 6:36).

The narrative of Matthew is very elaborate, and indeed also that of Lc:

sets the precept of the Torah is the Torah itself which draws both from traditional rabbinical

. In this teaching, marked by centuries of tradition (at least by sec.

III BC), Mt opposed to the commandment of the new justice, that is free, made

within Chapter 5 in the key of the triad as a crescendo:

following two illustrative esemplifcazioni, derived from the Hebrew (refer to

collectors: Mt 5:46) and from the pagan world (refer to the Greeting: Mt 5.47). The two examples

have a capacity in excess, because they say that the moral

brought by Jesus is dropped from both the Jewish religion that is bent only on the people of

Israel and the peoples of flantropìa non-Jews who may be regarded

autosuffcienti. The proclamation of Jesus is free and it can access

Jews and Gentiles are now changed the criteria for life: religion or paganism

This course is an introduction to what will happen later when

Moses asks YHWH to show his glory, but that he is not allowed

"You can not see my face" (cf. Ex 33,18.20). The new morality and

new justice will be delivered to Jews and Gentiles, and they can set up

the mountain of the Lord and receive the revelation of the person God's own

that was denied to Moses. This is the news of Jesus, no more division between believers and nonbelievers

, but only the project of a God who reveals himself and invites humanity without distinction

to climb the mountain as prophesied by Isaiah (cf. Is 2:3-4).

Despite the differences, the teachings of Matthew and Luke is the same: love and brought

required by Christ to be freed from the constraints 'natural' in which instinctively

says: family, social group, community religious communities of interest.

The horizon is the universality of God, where there are no categories, even that

that human beings deny the presence of God and are working to interest

power that God is unaware of. Jesus brings a real revolution, because it sets

that love is the "place" of his own presence, far removed from other places and spaces

sacral, religious and family. Love has in itself a divine dimension

that receives sacred rites, or instruments. It is not the Church who love, but

is the love that gives birth to the Church and it becomes only a

dimension where love can be expressed and generate again because "God is Love" (cf. 1 Jn 4:8).

say that non-believers can not live a total love God is imprisoned in chains
